about

CREDITS:
All instrumentation, vocals, audio sensations as well as this record’s design was performed and executed by Aaron D.C. Edge. This collection of tracks was also recorded and mixed with Aaron at the helm at Myelin Studio (London, England). Mastered by Aaron Edge/LNDR.

"Fossils are the remains or traces of ancient life that have been preserved by natural processes. These songs by historically influential bands helped shape my hardcore and punk life, hope you enjoy my versions of them."
— Aaron of Genuine

REVIEWS:
"Genuine is the solo project of Aaron Edge, former drummer of Tad Doyle's Brothers of the Sonic Cloth, former art director at Southern Lord Recordings, and ex-Stranger production department employee during the '00s. This straight-edge musician specializes in uncompromising hardcore covers of famous, semi-famous, and obscure songs by artists such as Jimi Hendrix Experience, Blondie, Bikini Kill, Crass, High on Fire, and Dead Kennedys. Under scrutiny here is Genuine's roaring rendition of Northern Irish punks Stiff Little Fingers' 'Suspect Device,' a powerful anthem about the Troubles from their classic 1979 LP Inflammable Material. The original's jagged dynamics and unbridled rage make it ideal source material for Genuine's 360º hardcore fury."
—Dave Segal / The Stranger Newspaper

"Cover songs are a tricky thing to do well. They either sound too much like the original recording to make it worthwhile, or they simply don’t have the same energy that made the original so powerful to begin with. It’s a tricky balance to find. But Genuine has honed in on that balance with focus and purpose. Having listened to a lot of Aaron’s previous work (in particular, his Hellvetika project; a MASSIVE collection of COVID lockdown sludge/doom covers), it’s clear that he not only has a knack for pinpointing what makes the source material special, but also knows how to harness his musical chops to create new meaningful remakes of these classics. This armload of nostalgia hits hard, and sticks with you."
—Nate Duke

"Aaron D.C. Edge is what you call a lifer. He lives and breathes music and he has done many, many bands over the years. Genuinely too many to list, just check out his Discogs profile. One of the things I’ve always enjoyed in Aaron’s musical output are his cover versions of hardcore and non hardcore songs alike. Aaron has a tendency to lean into slow and heavy territory and his takes on songs are a world all its own. All of this to say, that Aaron has music coursing through his veins and he simply can’t sit still or not express himself through music. 'Fossils' is a journey as diverse as his interest and love for music, all capable of making your head bang while you sing along to some classic hardcore and punk songs—all so recognizable—but not just a copy of the original song. These are distorted and so much heavier than the originals. Blondie and The Ramones have never sounded this angry... as distinctly an Aaron Edge project, an unstoppable creative force to be reckoned with and one that I am stoked to call a friend."
